Keep chips at risk, house charges and travel costs separate.
- Chips at risk
- A buy-in becomes playing chips. It is not a guaranteed refund.
- House charges
- Check the formula, cap and any other charges. Unpublished is not zero.
- Trip expenses
- Reserve your return transport independently of any winnings.

Read the cost correctly
MXN versus USD
Ask the room to label the currency. A traveller may translate pesos into US dollars in a post without preserving the original rate or date. That makes the post a poor basis for the amount to bring today. Do not infer a Mexican room’s stakes from a familiar US “1/2” description.
Buy-in versus fee
The buy-in is not simply an admission fee, nor is it guaranteed to come back. It becomes playing chips and the eventual balance depends on the game and room rules. Fees, rake and other charges should be identified separately.
| Component | Record | Avoid this assumption |
|---|---|---|
| Chips | Minimum, maximum and currency | The entire amount is a fee or a guaranteed refund |
| House charges | Formula, cap, interval and exceptions | An unpublished fee is zero |
| Trip expenses | Transport and other planned spending | Winnings will cover the return journey |
Room-by-room conditions
Blinds
The blind structure and the chip purchase are different fields. Both require a dated, branch-specific answer. Neither is verified for Hamburgo’s player-versus-player poker in this guide.
Rake cap
We have not obtained two current cost cards with at least one complete rake-and-cap statement. Palace’s cash rules supply room-rule information, but should not be used to fill an absent local rake field.
Extra charges
Ask whether any other amount applies and request its rule. Do not label an unexplained deduction as rake, tax or a universal local practice. That classification needs the relevant operator documentation.
How structures compare
Per-pot rake
To evaluate the description, you need the percentage, calculation base and ceiling. A lower percentage alone does not establish a lower total charge under all conditions.
Time charges
If a room quotes a time-based charge, record the period and when it applies. No room in this guide is assigned that model without evidence. It is a field to check, not a claim that the charge exists locally.
Rebuy rules
Ask about permitted amounts, payment methods and leaving or changing tables. Do not let a permitted rebuy become a reason to exceed the limit you set before the session.
Worked illustration
Hypothetical example
Suppose a made-up rule charges 5% of a pot, capped at 100 MXN, with no other charges in this illustration. A 1,000 MXN pot produces 50 MXN under that formula. A 3,000 MXN pot reaches the 100 MXN cap rather than the uncapped 150 MXN calculation.
These figures are not attributed to Palace, Hamburgo or any other room. They show how to read a percentage together with a cap.
What it does not predict
The example cannot predict your personal session cost or result. It contains no assumption about hands played, pots contested or additional rules. It is not a reason to play a larger game.

Questions to the room
Request the exact venue, variant, currency, blinds, buy-in range, rake formula, cap, additional charges and exit rules. If the reply leaves the currency or product unclear, ask again before sending money.

Documentary review: 10 September 2026. The cost threshold in the approved brief remains unmet, so this is a draft, not a current local tariff table. Use the poker-room guide for the shortlist, the visitor checklist for trip planning and the Hamburgo review for its documented offering.
